Congratulations to the DFMPHS for Another Successful Research Day

On April 21, 2022, the Department of Family Medicine and Public Health Sciences (DFMPHS) held its Annual Research Day. Research day was a successful virtual event for the second year in a row with a total of 60 attendees!

Edward Bujold, MD

This year’s event was centered on the National Public Health Week theme for 2022: “Public Health is Where You Are.” This year’s keynote speaker was WSU School of Medicine Alumni, Dr. Edward Bujold, M.D. Dr. Bujold’s talk resonated with the theme as he shared his journey to becoming a successful clinician-researcher. Highlights from Dr. Bujold’s talk included his work on the cost-effectiveness of the EHR and burnout among family medicine physicians. Dr. Bujold also shared details from his book, An Odyssey of Primary Care Research, Historical Perspectives.

Dr. Bujold’s inspiring talk was followed by the 2022 student/trainee “top abstract” awardees. Family Medicine Resident Awardees Drs. Danny Garcia, MD, MPH, Haria Henry, MD, and Matthew Ellison, DO, presented their quality improvement  project: "Improving Pediatric Lead Screening Exams Performed at 1 and 2 Years of Age at Community Health and Social Services (CHASS) Center". MPH Student Awardee, Feicia Fabris, presented the research she conducted under the direction of DFMPHS faculty member, Erin Madden: "Understanding Stigma Toward Opioid Use Disorders and Harm Reduction Through Community-Driven Ethnographic Comics". A warm congratulations to the awardee and all of our other students, trainees, and faculty who provided an engaging series of poster presentations.
