Ascension Providence Rochester Hospital Selected to Participate in National Initiative on Social and Moral Determinants of Health
Detroit, MI, July 18, 2023 - Ascension Providence Rochester Hospital [ARPH] has been selected to participate in "National Initiative IX" Addressing the Social and Moral Determinants of Health. The initiative is sponsored by the Alliance of Independent Academic Medical Centers (AIAMC), a national membership organization of independent teaching hospitals and health systems.
The AIAMC National Initiative (NI) is the only national and multi-institutional collaborative of its kind in which residents lead multidisciplinary teams in quality improvement projects aligned to their institution’s strategic goals. Sixty-nine hospitals and health systems and nearly 1,400 individuals have participated in the AIAMC National Initiatives since 2007, driving change that has resulted in meaningful and sustainable outcomes improving the quality and safety of patient care. Twenty-three AIAMC-member hospitals and health systems were selected to participate in National Initiative IX.\
APRH was selected based upon their demonstrated commitment to better understanding of local social and moral determinants of health and providing patient care that is equitable for all. A leadership team from APRH, with faculty and resident representation from the Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, and Transitional Year programs, will collaborate with select hospitals from across the United States in developing and implementing projects that will positively impact both individual performance and institutional culture. Participants will attend four learning sessions as well as monthly networking zoom meetings and educational webinars during the 18-month Initiative. “Most healthcare leaders readily acknowledge the social determinants of health and their impacts, yet few organizations have moved beyond knowledge to action”, states Kimberly Pierce Burke, AIAMC Executive Director. “The AIAMC believes it is our moral imperative to do so, and we are delighted that APRH will help lead this critically important work.”
The AIAMC is the only national organization addressing the unique needs of independent academic medical centers. With approximately 70 hospital and health system members, our size provides an environment that encourages and supports networking and collaboration. We actively develop and apply real-world solutions to thrive in the continually changing regulatory and accreditation environment. In 2024, the AIAMC will celebrate our 35th anniversary and extraordinary track record of connecting graduate medical education as a strategic asset for achieving better outcomes.
