Transitional Year Residency Program

We are very pleased to welcome you to the Wayne State University Transitional Year Residency Program website. Our program is a one year university-based ACGME accredited residency, designed to provide a well-balanced comprehensive foundation in multiple clinical disciplines in preparation for your transition into a categorical residency program. Our innovative program offers a wealth of educational and clinical resources, with exceptional dedicated clinical faculty and health care providers, in a very nurturing environment. The Wayne State University Transitional Year Residency Program utilizes state of the art technology and exceptional training from the highly skilled staff at Ascension Providence Rochester Hospital Medical Center, John D. Dingell VA Medical Center, and Wayne State University School of Medicine faculty, resulting in a very diverse educational experience in both suburban and urban settings. Educational opportunities include active participation in Journal Club and M&M, as well as regularly scheduled subspecialty didactic lectures, Tumor Board, Grand Rounds, and bedside teaching rounds.

Our unique program allows residents the freedom and support to explore elective specialties with an individualized curriculum based on categorical requirements and personal academic interests. As an integral part of the WSU School of Medicine, we emphasize strong academics and teaching, implement innovative curricula, and foster interest in practice-based research. Our Transitional Year Residents are among the countries best and have matched into categorical residencies including Dermatology, Ophthalmology, Anesthesiology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and Radiation Oncology.

The program successfully integrates Wayne State University's stringent academic standards, research resources, strong competency-based curricula, and fosters a sense of camaraderie and teamwork in a resident-centered atmosphere.
