Biography

Dr. Samantha Bauer serves as Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Public Health Sciences in Wayne State University’s School of Medicine. Dr. Bauer is a formally trained Epidemiologist, having earned her M.S. and Ph.D. in Epidemiology at Michigan State University. During this time, she completed additional advanced training in research methods as a Pre-Doctoral Fellow in Dr. James C. Anthony’s NIDA-funded (National Institute on Drug Abuse) T-32 program. Eager to serve communities in need, Dr. Bauer accepted an Epidemiologist position at the Detroit Health Department upon defending her dissertation. There, Dr. Bauer gained practical experience in surveillance, data management, and epidemic response.

In pursuit of a greater population health impact, Dr. Bauer returned to academia as a Research Assistant (RA) at Wayne State University in 2021. As an RA, Dr. Bauer contributed to the development and maintenance of the PHOENIX (Population Health Outcomes Information Exchange) Virtual Data Warehouse and Prevalence Profiler, as well as the co-management of the Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Research Design (BERD) core. Now in her role as faculty, Dr. Bauer leverages her epidemiologic and biostatistics expertise within a team science environment to work towards mitigating health disparities to ultimately achieve lifespan equality.
