Four Members of the Department of Family Medicine and Public Health Sciences Recognized at Michigan Family Medicine Research Day

The Michigan Family Medicine Research Day was held May 26, 2022, as a virtual event. This event brings together family medicine practitioners and researchers from across the state including Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine and Central Michigan University College of Medicine, this year’s coordinating institutions, as well as Michigan State University’s College of Human Medicine, Oakland University Willian Beaumont School of Medicine, University of Michigan Medical School, Wayne State School of Medicine, and the Family Medicine Foundation of Michigan. Out of the 61 presentations, four presentations from members of the Department of Family Medicine and Public Health Sciences received Awards for their scholarly activities.

MPH Student, Feicia Fabris, earned the Best Oral Presentation: Substance Use Disorder award for research conducted under the direction of DFMPHS faculty member, Erin Fadden: "Understanding Stigma Toward Opioid Use Disorders and Harm Reduction Through Community-Driven Ethnographic Comics".

MD Student, Sahar Elmenini, earned the Best Poster: COVID-19 award for research conducted under the direction of DFMPHS faculty member, April Idalski Carcone: "The Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Emerging Adults with Type 1 Diabetes".

MPH program graduate, Justin Woo, MPH, earned the Best Poster: Patient Care award for research conducted under the direction of DFMPHS faculty member and interim chair, Jinping Xu: "Low-Risk Prostate Cancer Treatment Recommendations by Urologists vs Radiation Oncologists".

Research Associate, Liying Zhang, PhD, earned the Best Poster: Health Equity award for research involving several DFMPHS faculty members, Steven Korzeniewski, Rhonda Dailey, Julie Gleason-Comstock, and interim chair, Jinping Xu: "Family and community environmental factors and sleep in adolescents: A Chinese sample".

The department congratulates these awardees and their mentors and collaborators for their outstanding representation of the department at the Michigan Family Medicine Research Day!
