Faculty Member, Kathryn Cox, MD, and two Residents, Olivia Schimmel, MD, and Alexander Christofis, DO, Awarded 2022-2023 Seed Grant

The WSU Office of Graduate Medical Education is pleased to announce that a Family Medicine faculty member, Kathryn Cox, MD, and two FM residents, Olivia Schimmel, MD, and Alexander Christofis, DO, have been awarded a 2022-23 Seed Grant in support of a quality improvement (QI) project. The primary goal of QI research is to gather data to assess an internal program or system implemented in a clinical setting in anticipation that the knowledge gained will enhance patient care. The goal of this project, “Hocus POCUS: Introducing the Magic of Point of Care Ultrasound to Family Medicine Residents,” is to development and implement a POCUS training curriculum for the Family Medicine Residency Program at Ascension Providence Rochester Hospital. The award will be used toward the purchase of a GE Logiq 9L-RS linear ultrasound transducer, which will be central to the training. As the Seed Grant was established to encourage all aspects of scholarly inquiry by residents and faculty, awardees are required to disseminate results of research derived from a funded project via conference presentation or journal publication. For more information on the GME Seed Grant program, contact Research Coordinator Dr. Heidi Kenaga.
