Erin Fanning Madden, Ph.D., MPH, a member of our Division of Population Health, has been leading a qualitative study of provider stigma and professional attitudes related to medications for opioid use disorders (methadone, buprenorphine, and naltrexone) since 2017. She will be presenting a paper from this work, titled "Treatment Provider Perceptions of Methadone Take-Home Regulation Before and During COVID-19" at an oral session at the virtual American Public Health Association meeting on October 25th. This paper is co-authored with Brad Ray of WSU social work, Pooja Lagisetty of University of Michigan internal medicine, Sandra Sulzer of Utah State University extension, and Bryson Christian, an undergraduate student from Oberlin College. The study highlights discomfort among treatment professionals toward federal policies allowing patients expanded access to methadone during COVID.
