DFMPHS Holds 5th Annual Research Day

The Department of Family Medicine and Public Health Sciences’ (DFMPHS) Annual Research Day occurred virtually on April 21, 2021 and was a success! The online platform provided greater flexibility for attendance, particularly for students and residents – many of whom were balancing work and other responsibilities during the conference hours.  We had a total of 70 attendees!

This year’s event was centered on the National Public Health Week theme for 2021: “Building Bridges for Better Health.” Our keynote panel included three local experts who spoke on how our community has responded to the COVID-19 public health crisis and strengthened our community partnerships. We thank Dr. Teena Chopra, Dr. Steven Korzeniewski, and Cindy Eggleton for their stellar presentations and on-going commitment to population health and community advocacy.

We also congratulate our student “top abstract” awardees for their excellent paper presentations (Resident Awardees: Drs. William Nahm, Peter Ly, and Roshan Patel; MPH Student Awardees: Madelyn Slamka & Divya Sruthi) and all of our other students, trainees, and faculty who provided an engaging series of poster presentations (28 total!).

The virtual meeting content is available on our DFMPHS Research Day event page (https://familymedicine.med.wayne.edu/researchday2021). We encourage you to review any of the presentations you may have missed.

Special thanks to the work of this year’s planning committee: April Idalski Carcone, Kristen Culbert, Florentine Friedrich, Angie Jacques-Tiura, Adrienne Jordan, Rachel Mahas, Angulique Outlaw, Elizabeth Towner, and  Amanda Compton.

Please mark your calendars for next year’s Research Day event on Wednesday, April 20, 2022.
