Elizabeth Towner is an Assistant Professor within the Department of Family Medicine and Public Health Sciences, Division of Behavioral Sciences at the Wayne State University School of Medicine. She is trained as a clinical and pediatric psychologist. Dr. Towner’s research focuses broadly on community engaged and community-based participatory research, pediatric obesity, dietary adherence, and developing health behavioral interventions. Her current work includes developing community engaged research capacity building tools for community and researchers and partnering with Detroit-based community-organizations to adapt and implement evidence-based health behavioral interventions in their organizational settings. She has extensive experience implementing Boot Camp Translation methodology to develop, implement, and evaluate community-driven health campaigns that have addressed COVID-19, Long COVID, and nutrition and healthy eating. Dr. Towner also facilitates community action councils for childhood obesity prevention, Long COVID, and cardiovascular health that collectively identify and implement community-driven solutions (including research) to community-identified health priorities.
