Population Health Faculty Mentors Students in Public Health Research

Wayne State University (WSU) Masters of Public Health (MPH) and Bachelors of Public Health students, and Medical School Residents continued to participate in Population Health public health research, presentation and publication with DFMPHS faculty during 2022.   

  • Sarah Parker, WSU MPH graduate and winner of 2021 research awards from the Michigan Family Medicine Research Day and the North American Primary Care Research Group (NAPCRG), continues to work towards publication of her MPH research with a manuscript in progress titled “Assessing Influenza Vaccination Coverage Among an Urban Pediatric Asthma Population: A Geospatial Analysis.” Co-authors are Amy DeLaroche, MD and Rajan Arora, MD from the Detroit Medical Center Children’s Hospital; Alex Hill, MA, GIS Director for the WSU Center for Translational Science and Clinical Research Innovation, and Julie Gleason-Comstock, PhD, MCHES, DFMPHS.  Ms. Parker noted “It has been exciting to expand upon the analysis of my MPH Capstone Research Project under the expertise of my study collaborators and guidance of Dr. Gleason-Comstock.”
  • Cardell Louis, MD, a 2021 WSU medical student graduate and 2022 Resident in Emergency Medicine, was co-author with Ghadir Mozeb, BS, BSPH (WSU Honors, 2021)  and Dr. Gleason-Comstock for the NAPCRG 2021 Conference podium abstract “Using the cardiovascular risk profile in a community heart health outreach intervention: Implications for primary care” published  in The Annals of Medicine April 2022, 20 (Supplement 1) 2961; DOI:https//doi.org/10/1370/afm.20.s1.2961.
  • Research and global public health education didactics were presented as posters at the 2022 6th Annual DFMPHS Research Day in April:

  • Research titled “Preliminary Assessment of a Heart Health Education Intervention for African American Adults” was accepted for a poster presentation at the 2022 44th Annual Michigan Family Medicine Research Day.  Authors are Julie Gleason-Comstock, PhD; Vijaya Kumar, MD;  James Janisse, PhD; Cardell Louis, MD; Ghadir Mozeb, BSPH; Sadia Yasmin, BS; Mukta Das, BS; Sahla Syeda, BS; Jinping Xu, MD.

The Population Health research team welcomes John Nzasi, WSU BS/MD Med-Direct Program, as he joins us for his MLC1100 2022 summer research internship.
