Match Day Rate of 41!

Congratulations to the Undergraduate Medical Education team members, Drs. Jira Coumarbatch and Ralph Williams and Lisa Blackwell for their efforts and hard work that resulted in a Family Medicine match rate this year of 41!  This is a significant increase over 2020 (17) and 2019 (25) trending upwards to the 2018 total of 48 matched residents.

This year’s students matched in residency programs across 14 states.  Seventeen residents will practice at Michigan hospitals.  Others include: 3 in Wisconsin and Indiana, 2 in Arizona, California, Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and one in Florida, New York, New Mexico, North Carolina, Tennessee and 2 location not reported.

Per the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), this year more family medicine residency programs than ever matched the most students and graduates in family medicine’s history; marking 12 years of growth in overall positions offered and filled for family medicine.  Family Medicine is the 2nd most popular clinical discipline this year out of the 23 specialties by WSU SOM graduates.

Congratulations to all our ambassadors of Family Medicine. Keep up the good work!!
