The Family Medicine Foundation of Michigan (FMFM) Board of Trustees has awarded Leya Maliekal (Class of 2024) with its 2023 Medical Student Externship Matching Grant, funded jointly by Family Medicine Foundation of Michigan (the philanthropic arm of Michigan Academy of Family Physician) and American Academy of Family Physicians Foundation.  The intent of the externship is to provide opportunities for medical students to explore, through hands-on experiences, the breadth and depth of the family medicine specialty and develop a family physician mentor.  Leya’s mentor will be Dr. Fatin Sahhar, an Associate Professor – Clinical (voluntary) in Family Medicine and Public Health Sciences. Dr. Sahhar works through the DMC-Sinai Grace Hospital Family Medicine Clinic.
