Department of Family Medicine and Public Health Sciences Hosts Statewide Research Day

The Wayne State University Department of Family Medicine and Public Health Sciences recently hosted the 46th Annual Family Medicine Research Day event on Thursday, May 23, 2024.  This annual event is to highlight family medicine and public health research efforts from family medicine departments across the state.  The 160 attendees and presenters included residents, medical and public health students, physicians and research faculty.  More than 20 oral and 40 posters were presented focusing on quality improvement, clinical and public health research.  The conference was held at the Student Center building ballroom on Wayne State’s main campus.   This was the first in-person statewide family medicine research conference since 2019 with attendees from UM, MSU, OU, WMU and WSU.

The keynote speaker was Dr. Abdul Al-Sayed who serves as director of Wayne County’s Department of Health, Human & Veterans Services and health officer for the county.   

The title of his presentation was: “Patient Advocacy: Finessing change for those we serve.”  He urged physician advocacy for the underserved and provide inspiration to continue to reduce health inequities.
