Department Congratulates MPH Graduates
Congratulations, MPH Graduates!
The Wayne State University MPH Program celebrated our student and graduate accomplishments at our annual Graduate Recognition and Award Ceremony on Thursday, May 5, 2024. The 110-seat auditorium was filled to capacity with graduates, student awardees and proud leaders and faculty.
MPH Student Representative Asiimwe Najjuma’s (MPH, 2024) spoke eloquently about her MPH journey. While an MPH student, Asiimwe was also awarded the Albert Schweitzer Fellowship (Detroit Chapter) through which she designed and led an at-home food grocery-delivery service to a group of pregnant women and new mothers in the city facing food insecurity. Below is an excerpt from her moving speech:
“Now, standing at the end of this MPH journey, we can take this moment to look back and recognize the ways in which this community, these connections, and these opportunities at Wayne State have fostered our development as not just students, but as future public health professionals who are more than prepared to dive into this work. I am more than confident in our preparedness to apply and advance these skills we have developed inside and outside of these classroom walls, and I am thrilled to be doing so with this tenacious network of Wayne State Warriors.”
Family Medicine and Public Health Sciences Chair Jin Ping Xu, MD, MS, FAAFP, Asiimwe Najjuma, MPH 2024, and MPH Program Director Rachel Mahas, PhD, MPH, MS.
