Karen Kolmodin MacDonell, PhD is an Associate Professor in the Division of Behavioral Science with a background in developmental psychology. She has worked on multiple NIH-funded projects focused on identifying and reducing health disparities. Her recent work has included mHealth approaches for both assessment and intervention, including the Detroit Young Adult Asthma Project, a technology-based intervention to improve adherence to medication in African American young adults with asthma. She also works with Dr. Naar to train providers to utilize Motivational Interviewing in adolescent HIV clinics to promote improved HIV self-management in youth. Dr. MacDonell is a current member of the Office of Minority Health Resource Persons Network, the Wayne State “B3” Institutional Review Board, and the Academic Senate.
