Courage in Action, Legacy in Our Hearts
On January 20th, PGY2 Family Medicine resident Dr. Nilou Maktabijahromi was on her way to an inpatient shift when she came upon a motor vehicle accident in 0-degree weather. Without hesitation, she stopped and performed CPR on the victim until EMS arrived. After ensuring the patient was in good hands, she continued on to work, arriving only five minutes late. Her quick action and selflessness reflect the very best of our profession.
Her courage also reminds us of the lasting example set by Dr. Frederick Rosin, an esteemed Wayne State Faculty Member who pass away in December. Dr. Rosin was an inspiration and the kind of person that the world was just lucky to have. He mastered a gentleness that was not to be confused with complacency or weakness. He was strong and kind. He was soft-spoken but also a force of nature. He sometimes said very little, but when he did say something, it echoed. Dr. Rosin was a voice for those who needed one and listener to those of us who talk too much. It was an honor to learn from such an intelligent and compassionate physician and a privilege for so many of us to be shaped by the teachings and wisdoms of Dr. Rosin.
Both in moments of urgency and across a lifetime of service, these are the qualities that define who we are and who we aspire to be.
