Wayne State University School of Medicine

Welcome

SchenkWelcome to the Wayne State University Transitional Year Residency Program. A wealth of educational and clinical resources, exceptional faculty and health care providers, and experienced, outstanding leadership provide an ideal educational foundation and culture to expand residents’ medical knowledge and experiences and successfully prepare them to transition to their selected residency programs.

WSU offers a Transitional Residency Program that utilizes progressive technology and exceptional training from the highly skilled staff at Crittenton Hospital Medical Center, John D. Dingell VA Medical Center, and Wayne State University’s School of Medicine. Our unique program allows residents to benefit from exposure to a diverse patient population: Crittenton’s new Family Medicine Center, serving suburbs north of Detroit, provides a community based, state of the art environment for resident training while the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center provides resident exposure to a diverse urban patient population in Detroit, Michigan.

As an integral part of the WSU School of Medicine, we emphasize strong academics and teaching, implement innovative curricula, and foster interest in practice-based research.

Our residency provides an exceptional opportunity for training in a university-based program. The program successfully integrates Wayne State University's stringent academic standards, research resources, strong competency-based curricula, within a supportive, nurturing environment and community focus for which Crittenton has become known. Residents grow as professionals within a personal, resident-centered atmosphere.
