Applying to the WSU Transitional Year Residency Program

Applications to the Transitional Year Residency Program are accepted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). ERAS facilitates electronic filing of applications through all US medical schools or the Education Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates. The Wayne State University Transitional Year Residency Program is not accredited for those applying for Neurology or Radiology categorical nor DO programs.

Find answers to frequently asked questions at the ERAS web site: www.aamc.org/eras. The residency program encourages all applicants to register through the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP) nrmp@aamc.org.

The residency criteria includes an average USMLE score of 80 or above with no more than two attempts, a minimum of six months of U.S. clinical experience, graduation within the last five years and three letters of recommendation. Each application must also include standard information, dean’s letter, medical school transcript, board scores (NOBME, USMLE, etc.), and ECFMG certification if appropriate. Deadline for receiving the application is December 31. All applications are reviewed by the Resident Recruitment Committee. Applicants who meet and exceed our criteria may be considered for an interview by the Resident Recruitment Committee. Interviews are scheduled in October, November, December, and January.
