MPH Scholarships and Award Opportunities

The MPH Student Grant Award: The MPH Student Grant Award provides students with funding to attend a professional or academic conference, print an academic poster or presentation or additional funds (accommodations/travel) for students making presentations at conferences.  To apply, e-mail the name, date, location and cost of the conference, the date and title of your presentation (if applicable) and your professional goals for attending the conference to mphprogram@med.wayne.edu.  Funds are subject to availability. Maximum award $500. 

The Waller Endowed Student Scholarship: The John B. Waller, Jr. and Menthele (Mikki) Waller Endowed Scholarship award provides tuition assistance to an MPH student who promotes excellence and dedication to the practice of public health.  The selected students must also have demonstrated high scholastic achievement and financial need.  There is no application process; students are nominated by the faculty.  Award: $3000 annually


Wayne State University Graduate School Awards:  The Graduate School's scholarships and awards provide partial financial support for master's students throughout the degree process.  Application information is found at https://gradschool.wayne.edu/funding/scholarships-awards

  • Graduate Professional Scholarship (GPS):  The WSU Graduate School sponsors an annual Graduate Professional Scholarship competition for tuition awards in the fall and winter semesters. The GPS provides payment for resident tuition assessments only–a minimum of 6 graduate credits and maximum of 10 credits may be covered in each of the fall and winter semesters. Covered courses must count towards degree requirements (undergraduate, audited or dropped courses are not covered by GPS).


  • Retention Scholarship:  In an effort to support and retain students engaged in master's studies, this scholarship is available to degree-seeking students who demonstrate financial need and have been continuously enrolled in a WSU master's program.  The Retention Scholarship funds up to 4 graduate credits of tuition in at the in-state WSU Graduate School rate effective that semester.


  • Completion Scholarship:  This scholarship provides funds for up to 4 graduate credits of tuition at the in-state WSU Graduate School rate effective that semester. The aim of this scholarship is to provide tuition assistance to students during their final semester of their graduate studies so that they complete their degrees in a timely fashion and enter the workforce.


Graduate Student Professional Travel Awards: The Graduate School provides funding to departments to support graduate students' professional travel to national and international conferences to present their research. These awards are made by departments, in consultation with the dean's office in their school or college. Awards are made up to a maximum of $500 per student and require a matching amount from the department or college.  https://www.med.wayne.edu/biomedical-graduate-programs/student-resources/ 

Women of Wayne Incentive Scholarship: The Women of Wayne Incentive Scholarship provides funding to full-time or part-time freshman, sophomore, junior, senior or graduate students with financial need.  Applicants must provide an unofficial transcript and outline participation  in activities that demonstrate a commitment to gender equality and/or the work of the President's Commission on the Status of Women.
