Welcome to the Colorectal Cancer Screening Study webpage!

What is the study about?

The Colorectal Cancer Screening study is being conducted by researchers at Wayne State University and is funded by the National Cancer Institute.

Colorectal cancer (cancer that develops in the colon or rectum) is the third most common cancer diagnosed in both men and women in the United States.

The purpose of this study is to learn how much people know about colorectal cancer and colorectal cancer screening.

Who can participate?

We are inviting people who are:

• Male or Female
• African American/Black
• Age 50 to 75 years
• Have never had a colorectal screening test before or is not current with their colorectal cancer screening

What do I have to do?

If you take part in the study, you will provide some general background information, such as your age and gender. In addition, you will be asked to view a short video and complete a series of questions about colorectal cancer. These questions will assess your knowledge of colorectal cancer risks and prevention, and also available health screening options for colorectal cancer. Your participation is entirely online, and you can take part from wherever you choose, so long as you have a good internet connection.  In total, this survey will require about 45 minutes to complete.

Compensation

For taking part in this research study, you will receive a $50 electronic gift card from Amazon.com OR a $50 Meijer gift card.  The Amazon.com gift card will be delivered electronically to the email address you provide. If you select the Meijer gift card, it will be mailed to the address that you provide.  Although there are no right or wrong answers in this study, we will assess your general attentiveness while taking part, and we will only provide compensation for quality responding.  

What about my confidentiality?

All information collected about you during the course of this study will be kept confidential to the extent permitted by law. You will be identified in the research records by a code number.
